Birthday Party
Urban Art Co-Op Pottery Birthday Party
A Pottery birthday party is a unique, fun and educational experience.
A typical party is one session consisting of 2 hours of workshop time and 1 hour of party time. Each person will get to spend time on the pottery wheel, hand build an item and choose a pre-made cup or bowl to glaze and keep once it has been fired.
First the instructor will do a demonstration on the potter’s wheel for all participants. We will then divide the clay activities into two sessions. One half of the group will be using the pottery wheels, the other half will be creating a hand built item at the hand building table. We will then break for the party for 1 hour. We will then move everyone to the glaze table where they get to choose their cup or bowl and glazes. We will also discuss what color they want us to glaze their handbuilt item from the samples provided.
Wheel Throwing: Each person will get personalized attention and help learning the basic technique of throwing. Items created on the wheel will not be available to keep. NOTE: if they do create something they really want to keep there will be an extra charge of $20 as the instructor will have to trim, bisque, glaze and fire the piece after the party.
Hand Building: Each person will get a choice of a pattern from the ones available. They will be given a pre-rolled slab of clay to build a structure. There will be an instructor helping them with each step of the process.
Glazing: Each person will get to select their glaze color for their cup or bowl and we will instruct them on how to apply it. The instructor will fire the glaze items after the party.
Cost: $40 per participant, this includes clay, glaze, firing and instruction. Party food and goods are not included.
Pickup: Drying, firing, glazing and second firing takes approximately two weeks. We’ll call you when the items are ready for pick-up.
Parent Participation: One parent for every 3 children under the age of 12 is required. This allows for a fun and safe creative experience.
Additional Information: While we will make every attempt to keep your pottery creations whole, due to the sensitive nature of clay items do break. In the event an item does break, we will replace it with a similar item so no child is left without.
